This is my report for Sunday the 14.4.2019 Islandbridge.

This event was to commemorate all those from the Island of Ireland who served in the Royal Naval Division from 1914 until it passed into History in April 1919 ,having served in Belgium, Gallipoli, and France.

The following took part in the Ceremony.

  • The Royal Naval Ass,
  • The Royal Marines Ass,
  • The Irish Naval Ass,
  • Royal Irish Regimental Ass,
  • Royal Dublin Fusiliers Ass,

We formed up in Detachments and marched on,The Irish Naval Ass Carrying our Colours and the other Detachments carrying their Standards.

    Tributes to the Royal Naval Division was read by Cdr Rob Milligan MBA,CMgr FCMI, RMAes RN Senior Naval Officer Northern Ireland.
  • Rev David McBeth BEM BTh Chaplain RNA officiated.
  • Last Post was sounded followed by Reveille.
  • Wreaths were laid by all the above Associations.

    VIPs in attendance were

  • Captain Brian Fitzgerald Irish Navy representing the Flag Officer,
  • Col Darren Doherty Representing the UK Embassy,
  • Paul Stephenson Representing the Royal N/A.
The Ceremony ended with the reading of the poem Crossing the Bar by Alfred Lord Tennyson

There was Tea / and Coffee laid on in the Garda Boat Club Club across the River. We had a very large attendance from the Irish Naval Association with all our Branches taking part from Dublin,Waterford ,Cork and Limerick. Well done to our members who were up early and traveled long distance to be there. A special word of thanks to Neil O Donnell who carried our Colours. Also thanks to Martin Kiely of our Limerick Branch, our Photographer for today.
